Announcing the Winners …
A HUGE Congratulations to Judith and Steve who won the free thaoski Engagement Shoot Competition.
I thought I’d take this opportunity to share their full engagement story on how Steve proposed. Judith sent through a very long email and I’m sure all those who voted for them will want to read all of it!
Their engagement shoot will take place in October as Steve is currently away.
1. How did he propose?
I was actually completely taken aback when my fiance proposed to me. I wasn’t expecting it at all, we did all the usual ‘when we get married’ pre-cursor to sentences, and we always thought that we would spend the rest of our lives together, but I didn’t think it would happen when it did. We had been at his sister’s wedding 2 days before (cliched I know), he was very strange the next day. Quiet. Said he wanted to go to his house to get some things sorted and he would come over to mine later. The next morning I couldn’t get in touch with him. Then randomly he walked in my front door dressed in a suit. I think I swore at him to say where had he been! and also, “why are you dressed in a suit?”. He made me sit down in the living room and stood in front of me, and proceeded to tell me how I had made his life better, made him a better person, how there would never be anyone that he would want to be with more, got the ring out, did the whole one knee thing… “will you marry me”. I sat there in stunned silence and eventually said ” are you sure?”, he said yes, I said, ” I’m going to give you some time to make sure you’ve really thought about it” then I left the poor bloke sitting in the living room as I went to have a shower!!! I think I was still in shock. Came back afterwards with my towel around my head and got him to propose again, at which point I obviously said yes and the rest is history 🙂 He tried to make it all so romantic, but I was just so taken aback. He’s probably the only bloke that’s had to wait for his girlfriend to have a shower before he can ask again.
Question 2 , how did I know he’s the one?
Myself and Steve have gone through many trials and tribulations during our time together. I was never looking for a long distance relationship, I got one. My dad was a Captain in the merchant navy and I saw my mum bring up 3 young children on her own, so I also vowed I wouldn’t do the same. However, Steve is in the Army!! I tried not to get involved with him, but slowly and surely I fell for him. We are just such at ease in each other’s company. I have rediscovered that Steve is ‘the one’ many times during our 3 year relationship, realising each time that I love him even more than I thought I could love anyone. The key turning point however was after 6 months of dating he told me that he was being sent overseas for 6 months. I thought that I would have ended it, and I didn’t. We went out for lunch and he gave me his grandmother’s necklace and cross, and told me that it was proof he was coming back to me, and I had to keep it safe until he returned and he would come back to get it. That was what clinched it for me. In the 2 years since then we’ve dealt with long distance and Steve’s work which is difficult than other normal jobs. Again, this year he’s been sent to Afghanistan for 3 months, he gets back in 3 weeks time. I don’t think I’ve wanted to do anything more in my life than marry him, I’d go down the registry office the day he got back!
ps. A BIG THANK YOU to all the couples who entered the competition and especially those that were short listed. Thank for connecting with my blog and for sharing your special story! Wishing you all love, romance, fun and excitement on your engagement journey.
